HypnoBirthing® is as much a philosophy of birth as it is a technique for achieving a calm, serene and satisfying birth. This amazing program teaches you, along with your birthing companion, the art and joy of experiencing birth in a more comfortable manner. From hospitals to birthing centers to home births, HypnoBirthing® offers a pregnant woman the versatility to birth her baby gently, calmly and joyfully in whatever setting she chooses.
With HypnoBirthing®, you gain an understanding of how the birthing muscles work in harmony when your body is relaxed and free of fear. You will be fully in control, totally relaxed, awake and aware. In this calm state, your body creates endorphins, a natural relaxant, and prevents the release of stress hormones that cause constriction and pain. Thus returning birth to the safe, peaceful experience nature intended. When a mother is prepared for birthing physically, mentally and spiritually, she can summon her natural birthing instincts and birth her baby in an easier, more comfortable manner and often, without pain.
The birth companion is prepared through HypnoBirthing® to be an integral part of the birthing experience, deeply sharing in the beauty of new life. HypnoBirthing® brings the mother, baby and companion together in a wonderful prenatal, perinatal and postnatal bonding experience.
You will be fascinated as you view HypnoBirthing® films, showing laboring mothers, awake, alert and in good humor as they experience the kind of gentle birth that you, too, can know when you are free of the fear that causes pain and tension. Through self-hypnosis, special breathing, and visualization, HypnoBirthing® teaches you to release all prior programming about birth, how to trust your body and work with it, as well as how to free yourself of harmful emotions that lead to pain-causing fear and unyielding muscles. Combined with sound information on the physical process of pregnancy, labor, and birth, it is no wonder that new parents everywhere are thanking HypnoBirthing and their childbirth educators for a calmer, more relaxed labor and birthing experience. HypnoBirthing returns birth to the simple and miraculous event that nature intended.
History of HypnoBirthing
HypnoBirthing® is rooted in birthing practices from thousands of years ago, and was recently recaptured through studies in the early 1900’s by English obstetrician, Dr. Grantly Dick-Read. He was one of the first to forward the idea of natural birthing on the premise that without fear and tension, a pregnant woman is able to birth her baby without the accompaniment of severe pain. Marie Mongan, the Founder of HypnoBirthing, harnessed this important premise and created the childbirth program in 1989 which combines extreme relaxation, focused thought (i.e. hypnosis) and trust so pregnant women could birth their children confidently, easily and lovingly.
